America's FuturePosted by Portrait | of a New America (los angeles, United States) on 4 May 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. In the downtown section of Los Angeles sits one of the poorest grade schools in America. 9Th Street School is located in the core of skidrow, more the half of the children are considered homeless. The school is so poor that they get federal funds based on the students homeless status. Imagine the life of a child living from mission to homeless mission, then back to another welfare hotel with a 19year old single mother, father in jail, and a school district that is making deep educational budget cuts. Any wonder why Cali's prision system is dangerous and over crowded. Or, why more then 40% of Los Angeles's students dropout. There is a change in America. Portrait | of A New America is a simple snapshot of this nation; our concerns, and hopes for a better future. This work does not seek to answer questions regarding the complex changes; the vision is to present a range of topics that are relational to life in America: 2008.
