Legacy Of A Nation

Posted by Portrait | of a New America (los angeles, United States) on 3 May 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

I had breakfast yesterday at a favorite local eatery in Los Angeles; while there, the owner comes over, we begin to engage in our regular chat as I enjoy my pancakes, and newspaper.

Seems, there is a current problem in his household. His son is 26, recently got married, and just got called back to Iraq to protect and defend America's objective in the Middle East.

In the old days of America that would not be a problem. The wife, and family simply would wait on the war to end, and the return of a loved one. However, we do live in a time of great flux, and new rules.

To finish the story, the son's new lovely bride is Mexican, and lives in Mexico; they met while He was stationed in El Paso Texas. But, she has no claim of American rights, liberty or freedom. And, if her husband who is Irish-Mexican-American, can't get back in time to complete the papers ... she will have no support - dependent care from the U.S...if he gets hurt.

What was the old America?

And, what is America morphing into, what elements of legacy will we hold dear.

Will we still cling onto liberty, and honor?

Thanks !
