<p>The status quo I refer to is the political and economic power held by a few that have the means to influence the direction of legislation at the expense of the many. Voting is not enough in a democracy, people must have a true voice in government but it is clouded by many &quot;special&quot; interests. We are letting business make decisions for us that only citizens through debate should be able to resolve. </p>
<p>Sorry for not replying earlier. I was not aware of this system to communicate at this blog and just recently discovered that I can see replies to my comments more efficiently by looking at the comments section. Take care.</p>

<p>Illustrates and nicely states your social statement. I would say that America is still being held back in these burdensome and archaic ideologies. Amazing how both the right and the left parties of the US have done little to change --but have instead upheld-- the status quo. True change can only come from the people. A re-learning and understanding about their responsibilities as citizens. A return to the pursuit of true liberalism as set forth by the forefathers of America. Perhaps their hearts were not in the right place, but their ideas were right on the money.</p>
